The Bluecoat Display Centres stand concept for the 2011 COLLECT at the Saatchi Gallery event involves their represented artists looking at contemporary political issues in all their diversity including sexual politics, animal rights, warfare and current affairs. Following on from the COLLECT event at the Saatchi we will present the same group of artists as the 'COLLECTED' exhibition at the Display Centre. Artists featured include Stephen Bird, Michael Brennand-Wood, Stephen Dixon, Emma Rodgers and Paul Scott, with much of the work shown being newly commissioned for the Collect exhibition.

Stephen Dixons work makes pertinent comments regarding contemporary warfare. Recent projects have included collaborations with Amnesty International and Kosovan refugees, Monopoly a battleship sculpture for the 2009 Ceramics Biennial in Stoke as well as being the first artist in residence at the V&As new ceramic galleries.

Stephen Birds work ironically reinterprets the tradition of 18th & 19th century ornamental ceramics in his Industrial Sabotage range.

Paul Scott's current research ranges from the dying pottery industry in Stoke to the ethics of dam building in the Far East.

Emma Rodgers work examines her conflicting views on sexual politics, game hunting and meat production in the UK.

Michael Brennand-Wood playfully examines the varied political arena in some new textile pieces which extend his sustained commitment to the conceptual synthesis of contemporary and historical sources.

The theme of contemporary political issues links in well with Liverpool City of Radicals, a program of exhibitions, events, debates and activities based around the idea of the radical.
